The Empire House, located in Baltimore’s hip and historic Mount Vernon, offers visitors a unique blend of Victorian charm, modern elegance, and downtown Baltimore convenience.

The Empire House is an owner occupied Guest House. While it has all the warmth and charm of a bed and breakfast, we do not serve breakfast. We have found that our guest prefer to explore the neighborhood and try one of the many options for breakfast that are within walking distance or around the city.

We currently offer a fully furnished corporate apartment, ideal for an extended stay, a two bedroom/one bath suite on the third floor, and two large bedrooms with private baths on the second floor.

The Empire House is nestled on an attractive tree-lined side street, only steps from everything historic Mount Vernon has to offer, including restaurants, theatre, museums, symphony hall, and nightlife. The central location also makes The Empire House an ideal hub from which to explore the rest of the city, and the region. Stops for the MARC, Amtrak, Light Rail, the free Charm City Circulator, as well as the Johns Hopkins Shuttle, and the University of Maryland Shuttle are all within walking distance. Interstate 83 is only a four block drive from your off street parking space behind the house.

Built in 1874 as the private residence of William Pinkney Whyte, then senator of Maryland, this unique, 40 foot wide brownstone was his home throughout his extensive political career. After his death in 1908 it served as the home to a prestigious medical practice for over 70 years. In 1996 it was purchased by it’s current owners who returned it to a single family home.
